Le Friborg Center for Smoking Prevention realized in 2015 test purchases with 330 traders in the canton. And 47% agreed to sell cigarettes to young people under 16 ans.This test was conducted with young mystery customers of 14 to 15 years, accompanied by adult observers. But to remain in a legal framework, no sale has been concluded, the young person pretending then a lack of money.
These test purchases were followed by a direct oral feedback on the outcome of the test to staff, as well as a letter to the point of sale.
Improvement over 2009
A similar study was organized in 2009, which revealed a particularly high acceptance rate with tobacco sales eight times out of ten. The researchers believe that the latest results are better.
Merchants are asking more and more young people for ID. This is the only reliable way to check their age.
