In Switzerland, young people under the age of 18 will no longer be able to buy e-cigarettes in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. This is not the first canton to want to prohibit the sale to minors: the canton of Vaud also wants to do.
The Canton of Basel-Country will ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to less than 18 years. The cantonal parliament agreed on Thursday at first reading a revision of the law on alcohol and tobacco.
The e-cigarette is thus subject to the same legal framework as tobacco. Currently, the e-cigarette is over-the-counter. The left and right MPs supported the EPI motion to better protect young people.
In April, the Grand Council of Vaud accepted a postulate asking the government to subject the electronic cigarette to the same legal framework as tobacco products. He calls for the ban of e-cigarettes in public places, advertising for these products and sales to minors.
