In Switzerland, the Bern Government wants electronic cigarettes to be subject to the same legal requirements as conventional cigarettes. The sale of e-cigarettes would thus be prohibited to less than 18 years, whether or not they contain nicotine.
A ban on advertising and protective provisions against passive smoking are also provided for in the draft amendments to the law on trade and industry, said Friday the canton of Bern. The products of tobacco to be heated and those of herbal smoking, such as herbal or hemp cigarettes with a low THC content, should be subject to the same requirements. Snuff escapes the protection against passive smoking.
The project put in consultation also wants to soften the opening hours of the stores. These could stay open on four Sundays or holidays per year without the need to ask for permission. On Saturdays, shops could stay open until 18h00, as is the case in the canton of Neuchâtel. Some cantons have liberalized the opening hours of the shops. The canton of Bern is in the Swiss average and it will remain so after the revision of the law.
