Bad news for some of the vapers in Belgium. As of this Saturday, 9 February, it is forbidden to smoke and vapote in a vehicle in the presence of a minor under 16 years in the territory of Flanders. Anyone who ignores this rule may be fined up to 1.000 euros.
The Flemish decree, initiated by the former Flemish Minister for the Environment Joke Schauvliege (CD & V), also applies to electronic cigarettes. In Wallonia, the Walloon Parliament also approved at the end of January the ban on smoking in the car in the presence of a minor. All minors under 18 years are concerned, and not 16 years as in Flanders. The fine can go up to 1.000 euros. But the rule should not come into effect before 2020.
« The date is not yet recorded, it will be included in a future decree related to environmental offenses that will be taken soon", Said the spokesman of the Walloon Minister for the Environment, Carlo Di Antonio (CDH). In Brussels, no ordinance on the subject has yet been voted.
