BELGIUM: The indirect tobacco tax brings in 123,8 million more in 2018.

In Belgium, it seems that tobacco brings in a lot of money for the state! Indeed, the indirect tobacco tax brought in an additional 123,8 million in 2018, this figure could partly explain why the government is doing nothing to liberalize the use and sale of vaping products.

TOBACCO… BILLIONS! DIFFICULT TO DEFEND VAPING!

The Belgian state collected some 8,83 billion euros through excise duties on various products in 2018. The indirect tobacco tax brought in 123,8 million more than the previous year. Revenues related to excise duties on manufactured tobacco increased by 2,373 billion in 2018, after four years of stagnation.

Border sales probably played a role in this development, given that the price of the pack of cigarettes increased by 1 euro in France in March 2018. But with such sums, it is very easy to understand why the Belgian government does not want to put forward vaping.
