DOSSIER: The cough of the vapoteur, why the e-cigarette can cause irritation?

This is a phenomenon that often appears in the initiation of vaping: The cough due to the use of an e-cigarette. This small inconvenience, if not serious, can be due to several reasons. Here's how to get rid of that "sore throat" and cough :

The number one reason that can cause coughing and throat irritation is simply too much nicotine in your e-liquid. Just lowering the dosage can help you stop feeling this irritation. Today, there are also e-liquids with nicotine salts which offer the same dosage with a less aggressive effect.

If you choose an e-liquid that has a powerful taste when you are not used to it, it can also be the cause of your cough (especially if it contains menthol, cinnamon…). Changing e-liquid for a more suitable one can be a solution. The composition of the e-liquid is often important! Be aware that some people are also intolerant to propylene glycol, switching to a 100% vegetable glycerin e-liquid could prove to be the solution to your irritation or cough problems.

Going into vaping to stop smoking is a good idea, but you still need to get the right advice. So that your initiation is done at best, opt for an MTL (Mouth To Lung) or indirect inhalation kit. This will give you an experience similar to the aspiration of a traditional cigarette less disturbing for your body. Conversely, avoid starting with a DTL (direct inhalation) kit which certainly produces a lot of vapor but which will probably make you cough for days or even weeks while your throat gets used to it.

Also remember to regularly clean your e-cigarette with lukewarm water and change the resistance of your atomizer if necessary, especially if you experience a burnt taste (risk of dry-hit). It often happens that worn equipment causes inconvenience. Also check the power used on your equipment, each resistance requires a suitable power. Too much power can cause coughing or irritation.

If you have been a smoker for a long time, smoking may have irritated your throat without you noticing. The e-cigarette only makes you feel the damage caused by tobacco. Your body will need to detox from tobacco, it may take a few days to several weeks for your throat to adjust to the vapor.

If, despite all of these changes, your cough hasn't stopped, try vaping differently. You can keep the vapor in your mouth for a few seconds before inhaling it gradually. Above all, do not lose hope, do not hesitate to seek advice from vaping professionals and to try different options. Don't give up telling yourself it doesn't work, give your throat time to get used to the vapor from the e-cigarette.
