The new version of the TPD (European Directive on tobacco) which also concerns the e-cigarette is fast approaching and the specter of the bitter failure of the EFVI in 2014 replenished the tip of his nose. The new European consultation on the taxation of tobacco products is open and it will take a massive mobilization to avoid an economic disaster for the vaping sector.
Europe always has unpleasant surprises in store for us! The latest is neither more nor less than the taxation of tobacco products and therefore of e-cigarettes. Open since March 30 and until June 22, 2021, the new public consultation launched by the European Commission therefore focuses on taxation of tobacco products of which the e-cigarette is part.
The aim of this new consultation is clear: To consult the European population on the differences between the member states in terms of taxes and on the creation and level of taxes, in particular on e-cigarettes. The consultation highlights tobacco called "combustible" then e-cigarettes and CBD (cannabidiol).
Tobacco taxation is an essential tool to discourage tobacco consumption and reduce the prevalence of smoking. The high number of smokers in the EU remains a major concern, and price differentials between EU countries lead to unwanted cross-border shopping.
The rules in force date back to 2010, and the minimum tax rates have now lost their effect. These rules are also not adapted to market developments and the entry into the market of new products. Finally, concerns about fraud remain high.
The EU rules in force are therefore being revised, the aim being to ensure that they remain in line with the objectives pursued and can contribute to the achievement of the ambitions of the European plan to fight cancer.
This public consultation should enable all parties concerned to express their point of view on these tax rules relating to tobacco products as well as on their future. The consultation includes questions on the effects of the current regime, as well as possible changes. (Introduction of the consultation - ec.europa.eu/)
It is clearly not necessary to discuss the subject for hours, the goal is simple: take a stand against a "strong" tax on vaping products. There is only one solution for this, mass mobilization! Respond to the consultation and invite family, friends and family to do so as all responses will be counted.
