HEALTH: Vaping, a risk for your oral health?

If the subject has already been treated many times here in a reassuring way, it seems that the latest data is no longer really in favor of vaping. Indeed, the fact of using an e-cigarette could have consequences on your oral health, this is in any case what affirms theAmerican Heart Association.

REDUCED RISKS FOR ORAL HEALTH

Is vaping a risk to consider for oral health? If you are a smoker, it seems that the answer is simple because once again we will talk about risk reduction and not risk absence. However, the American Heart Association in the United States seems to want to alert on the subject: " More and more research shows that the chemicals in e-cigarettes start to inflict damage where they enter, which is your mouth. »

A study conducted by New York University and published in February 2020 in the journal Science showed that 43% of people using e-cigarettes suffered from gum disease and oral infections (compared to 73% among smokers and 28% in those who did not smoke or vape). The researchers then explained that “ The use of electronic cigarettes changes the microbiota in the mouth and makes users more prone to inflammation and infections ". The latter being the cause of problems as diverse as cavities or periodontitis.

We know that the best thing is to stop smoking or even vaping, but in terms of risk reduction, vaping remains a very interesting option even for your oral health!
